Total Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

For the Ravioli:

  • 1 lb fresh or store-bought cheese or meat-filled ravioli

For the Red Meat Sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or Italian sausage for extra flavor)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • ¼ cup red wine (optional, for depth of flavor)

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Fresh basil or parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ravioli

    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

    • Cook the ravioli according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Red Meat Sauce

    • In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

    • Add the diced onion and sauté until soft, about 3-4 minutes.

    • Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.

  3. Cook the Meat

    • Add the ground beef (or sausage) and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.

  4. Build the Sauce

    • Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to enhance the flavor.

    • Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce.

    • Add the oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, sugar (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir well.

  5. Simmer for Flavor

    • If using red wine, pour it in and let it cook for 2 minutes.

    • Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Combine & Serve

    • Add the cooked ravioli to the sauce, gently stirring to coat.

    • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil or parsley.

  7. Enjoy!

    • Serve hot with garlic bread or a side salad.
